Cranberry Cider Relish

Updated: May 15, 2021

Yield:

One small jar (contains about 6 portions)

Ingredients:

50g sugar

1 cinnamon stick

1 orange peel (fingerlength)

1 clove

100g cranberries (fresh or frozen)

Preparation:

1) Cranberry cider relish is typically served together with the turkey on thanksgiving. But it also tastes well as a topping for venison and camembert or a slice of bread.

2) This recipe is really simple and pretty quick to make once you have cooked the apple cider. We don't even need to add gelatin, because the cranberries contain a lot of pectin, which has the same effect.

3) To start off, put a part of the homemade apple cider into an pot, add in some sugar and the spices (a peel of an orange, cinnamon and cloves).

4) Let it simmer for a few minutes and then remove the spices.

5) Now it’s time to add the main ingredient: the cranberries. You can use fresh or frozen ones, that doesn’t matter (taste- and nutritionwise), but dried berries won’t work.

6) Let it simmer about 10 minutes more and when the cranberries start to disintegrate, mash them until it reaches your desired texture.

7) Lastly fill the mixture into a glass and let it cool down before serving.
